Amiga Montessori - Golden Grove

Project Background

Early Childcare Centre on challenging lot with a vision for the future.

Completed as an extension of our completed project at The Stables precinct, the next stage of development in this town centre was the design and implementation of Amiga Montessori Early Learning Centre.

The site posed a considerable design challenge with over 3m of fall, numerous well-established and protected native trees, neighbouring horse-riding trails, and forming part of the district’s natural water course. These features heavily informed the design choices and planning required of the team, resulting in a water sensitive urban design response that includes the incorporation of permeable paving and water harvesting infrastructure with the landscaping and building. For example, the outdoor play area required pruning and management of existing trees as well as the construction of a 3m tall retaining wall, which has been constructed of natural feature stone to provide a naturalistic and water friendly connection to the ground below.

All classrooms are positioned with direct access to the play area where fixed canopies and additional shade sails provide safe and stable sun protection at all angles.
